The aim of the research is to analyze the development of Ayatollah Abdullah Javadi Amoli's ideas on explaining the model of political legitimacy and the relationship between Islam and the legitimacy of the government within the framework of political theology, considering his distinguished position in theology and authorship of numerous works in the field of political theology. The present research uses Quentin Skinner's intentional hermeneutic method (subjective and objective contexts, customary norms, and thoughtful dispositions); a method that, with a mediatist approach, presents a combination of text-centric and context-centric. Javadi Amoli considers political legitimacy to be divine, which is transferred to the guardianship of the jurist through prophecy and imamate. He considers the guardianship of the jurist to be the deputy of the infallible Imam in the era of occultation and considers it legitimate through divine appointment, but he considers its acceptance to be subject to the acceptance of the people through experts; God has appointed leaders to manage the affairs of society, either specifically (the infallibles) or generally (the jurists of the era of occultation). He emphasizes the role of reason and narration in political theology and sees republicanism as a complement to divine wilayah within the framework of the Islamic system. Javadi Amali's view is based on the divine-popular legitimacy of wilayah faqih, in which God appoints rulers and the people secure political acceptance through their own election. Rejecting the agency-based approach to wilayah, he likens it to divine supervision over the wise and believes that the people have a confirming, not a founding, role in electing a just jurist. The role of the people in actualizing wilayah and popular acceptance are necessary conditions for the practical realization of religious sovereignty.
