This study indicated that, while maintaining the position of the single leadership or the caliphate, diverse intellectual streams and several milestones can be seen in this intellectual process. Accordingly, five waves were detected in the intellectual streams on the Islamic world unity which include the caliphate-based, the state-centered, the institution-centered, the people-centered, and the civilization-driven waves.
