Ali Shariati was a leftist theorist of political Islam and a renowned elite and thinker in the world of Islam. Understanding Shariati’s thoughts and studying them from various aspects have gained significance especially when his works played an inspiring role in the culmination of the Islamic Revolution. This paper aims to identify components of political culture of Shia school of thought in Shariati’s political thought to find an appropriate answer to the principal question of “How did these components manifest in his political thought?” On this basis, based on the agent-structure theory, and Margaret Archer’s theory of structure agency and culture in particular, as well as Shariati’s works we have studied the three components of Ijtihad, Hegira (Migration) and Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil by qualitative analysis of documents. Findings of the paper indicate that not only all three components have important standing in Shariati’s thought, but also it can be claimed with some degree of risk that his ‘theory of revolutionary Islam’ is based on the said components
